Please Take the Survey
For my persuasive essay, I'm writing about sleep deprivation in college students. I find this to be very interesting due to the fact that many of my friends and myself find themselves up late at night trying to finish homework or study for a test. Sleep deprivation can be extremely dangerous, it can cause a weaken immune system, binge drinking, and of course, car accidents. I'm creating a survey in hopes to see what students from WMU and other Universities have to say about this. So, if you have 5-10 extra minutes and want to help a fellow classmate, head on over to https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/6WCCVCB and take the survey. It'll be very helpful and much appreciated.

Class
Today in class we researched our topics for our persuasive essay. I found this to be helpful in terms of making sure that the sources I choose were well written and beneficial to my paper. Being able to finish my Annotated Bibliography in class distressed me because I have a four page paper due Tuesday along with another paper and a sociology test. Although I have started my papers, I feel like there is not enough time in the day or week to finish them.

Silver Bells
This Friday is Silver Bells. I'm so excited because it's seriously the best thing ever. In downtown Lansing they have a Thanksgiving and Christmas parade that people from all over Ingham County go to. After that, everyone heads over to the huge pine tree in front of the capitol to watch the lighting of the "Christmas tree". Then you can either go the flea market to eat and listen to music or go to the town center to have hot cider and cookies and listen to an orchestra. If anyone is in the Lansing area either this year or any other year, I encourage you to go.

Who to Kill...
Today in class we discussed our second project and third project. We had an activity which involved deciding, between 12 people, who to kill off after a nuclear war. After this, we were split in to two groups and talk about who we thought should stay or who should to die. This activity was to help us with our persuasion essay. I found this to be helpful because sometimes when I'm trying to get my point across and others don't have the same one, I tend to tell them theirs are wrong. This taught me to take in others point of view into consideration.

Spontaneous Trip to Chicago
Friday, my sister, friend Katie and I decided to go to Chicago, simply because we wanted cupcakes. It's only a two and a half hour drive so it's not terrible. There is this cupcake bakery called Sprinkles Cupcakes which is incredibly good. We thought they were only in southern California, so when we found out that there was one located in Chicago we were so excited. Well while we were down there, Psycho was being played at Navy Pier so we attended that.

"Sonny's Blues"
Today in class we discussed "Sonny's Blues" written by James Baldwin. We talked about two songs, one by Louis Armstrong, the other by Charlie Parker and how they correlate with "Sonny's Blues". The differences between Sonny and the narrators thoughts on jazz are completely opposite. Sunny believes life needs to be happy, and to achieve happiness you have to live in the moment. The narrators believes that in order to obtain happiness you have to go to college, get a job, and have a family. The narrator is much more traditional compared to Sonny.

Holly's Coming to Town!
I honestly don't know what to write about so I'm just going to ramble on like I usually do. Well anyway my sister, Holly, is coming down Friday, which I'm extremely excited about because she is absolutely my favorite person. Holly went to fashion school in California and while she was away, I was lost. We were both lost. I had write my own emails and decide if my outfit is cute and she had to call people on the phone and ask the workers in stores questions. So when she moved back I was ecstatic.

Class Was Cancelled!
Fridays I have an 8am class so I always walk to English right after. When I arrived on the fourth floor of Dunbar yesterday, the one or two people who are usually there before me, weren't. So I figured that they either wont be coming to class or they're just running late. In the back of my mind I had a feeling that class was cancelled and after ten minutes I decided something was up. So I checked my email and sure enough, class was cancelled. That's how class went yesterday.

Idk
I'm pretty content with my life right now. My family and friends have good health, give or take a few, but overall everything is golden. I dyed my hair black purple over the weekend and I'm super happy about that. I also colored my sisters ends purple and it would have looked amazing, if her hair had taken to the dye. Instead of purple she now has red/orange/pink ends, but they still look cool. I went to the mall this past weekend to get my eyebrows done and well the lady fucked them up, for lack of a better word. Well, while at the mall I ended up buying more than I needed, which I tend to do..

Devil!?
Today in class we discussed the devil. Just kidding! We analyzed multiple songs. It was cool to see everyone's interpretation of them. One person thought that "Can't Feel My Face" was talking about the devil, which was a different interpretation. I feel like we came together as a class when we discussed "Blurred Lines."

Fall Means Halloween!
This weekend I'm heading home and going to Uncle Johns with my friends. A little background, Uncle Johns is a cider mill, they have donuts, apple and pumpkin picking, corn mazes and of course apple cider. I am unbelievably excited for this because I'm in love with Uncle johns. When it's open that means it's fall, which is my favorite season, basic I know. But fall means Halloween, my all time favorite holiday! I love halloween because of the throw back Disney movies and episodes, the scary movies.. I don't know, everything!

Class and Carrie
I walked into class today with the mindset of sitting at a desk, bored for the next 3 hours, this was not the case. We watched and analyzed the 1976 version of the horror movie, Carrie. Although I was not a huge fan of the movie there were parts to it that were good. The acting, for the most part was decent. I mean you cannot expect much because the style of acting has changed dramatically over the years. We analyzed the characters personality, good/ evil, what their role was, that sort of thing. Then we got into a discussion about how multiple scenarios had a biblical sense, which I didn't agree on. Yes, the mother was extremely religious and yes there were a couple of scenes that you could interpret to have a biblical meaning, but I would not go as far as he did.

Oops..
Last night I went to see The Visit with some friends instead of studying for my Sociology exam tomorrow. Should I have done that? Probably not, but I did. Oops. Well anyway, I wasn't expecting it to be great but definitely not as bad as it was. I'm not saying it was the worst movie ever, because it wasn't. It reminded me of one of the Paranormal Activity movies, which I'm not a fan of. Overall it was pretty good. I found it stupidly hilarious.

A Glimpse Into Someones Life
Today in class we edited each others paper. I found this extremely helpful due to the fact that I got feedback on what I need to change to make my paper better. I enjoyed reading everyones paper, I feel like I had a glimpse into their life. This made me feel like got to know them a little bit better, not just a person I sit in class with every friday for 3 hours and 20 minutes. Although it was hard for me to share my stories with people I hardly know, I believe this activity was very productive and worthwhile.

It's life
This December marks the 11th anniversary of my father's first brain surgery. Every year since 2004, he has had brain surgery--until about three years ago when they tried radiation instead. The radiation helped and shrunk the tumor, but recent MRIs suggest that the tumor is growing again. The first round of radiation had severe side effects, so I believe my parents want to try chemotherapy this time.
People always ask me "How do you handle this?" Well, the truth is, it is all I have known. My entire life, since I was 7, has been about my father getting brain surgery and not knowing if it will be the last time I see him. I am used to it. It's just become my life.

Oh The Questions I Ask Myself
I am enjoying this class for the most part. I just wish it wasn't so dang long! But I guess it is my fault for taking it. I really wanted to get it over with since I am not the biggest fan of English. For me the class would not feel as long as it does if I did not have an 8am class right before. But yeah, does the narrative have to be about a place or person that inspired you or can it be about a time? Does the dialog have to be posted on Eli, too? Oh the questions I ask myself while walking home from class. I guess I could email her...

If you smell anything funny... it's probably me.
I am incredibly annoyed right now! My dog, Kadie, was sprayed by a skunk this past weekend while I was home, so absolutely everything smells like, you guessed it, SKUNK! I read about a couple of ways to get the smell out but nothing promises to work. Over the summer my aunt's dog was sprayed and she could not get the smell out so she had to throw everything away. I can only hope I do not have to do that. So if you smell something vile it is probably me (sorry).

English 1050
After only two classes, I think I will enjoy this course. In the past I have never really enjoyed an English class, it has alway been uninteresting to me. I am looking forward to learning more about the different techniques to writing a better personal narrative this coming week.
I believe this blog will allow me to document the growth of my writing in a way I can go back and look at in the future. Even though I am not looking forward to writing two blog posts a week, I know it will be beneficial to my growth and learning.

Introduction
Alright, well, my name is Katrina Kitts. I am eighteen years old and from East Lansing, Michigan. I am a chocolate enthusiast and devoted cat lover. Starting this year, I am beginning my five year journey to become a nurse. After getting my Bachelors in Nursing I want to go on to become a Nurse Practitioner. Luckily, during high school I went to school to receive my phlebotomy license.
I'm absolutely in love with California and if I could drop everything and move there, I totally would. I spent the last summer in California with my sister and I fell head over heels in love with the culture, the weather and being a hour away from absolutely anything--which is a perk because with in a day you can be at the beach, then in the desert and driving through the mountains.
My sister actually has a blog, For Lust and Labels, so check her out if you're in need of fashion tips.
And a little shameless self-promo real quick: follow me on Twitter and Insta @katrina_kitts
